Morelia in Michoacán, MX - MyShadowProductions #162

Hello everybody !!

I am writing this update from Zihuatanejo (cee-wha-tah-nay-hoe), Zihua for short :)

I arrived here on Monday , February 26 via AutoVias bus from Morelia. It was amazing how active the Bus Terminal was at 4:30 am waiting for the 5:00 am departure and 5 hour ride, while other buses departed and arrived. Once the sun came up, the scenery was great, greens, browns, cacti, lemon and lime trees, mountains, etc. I have a few videos through the “upper deck picture window” that I will share in later posts.

I still have a couple of videos from Coyoacán:

Click Here to see the Video created from my photos at Viveros de Coyoacán, a vary large tree nursery that has changed over the years and today provides a large exercise playground with views :)

CLICK HERE to see a Video created from my photos at Mercado N. 89 Coyoacán. I tried the blue corn tortillas (you can see them being cooked in the video) for my quesadillas.

Up next in the blog will be Morelia, the capital of the State of Michoacán, with a population over 750,000. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for over 200 well preserved and protected structures (hundreds more not protected by UNESCO) from as early as the 16th to 18th centuries, featuring their characteristic pink cantera stone (any geologist out there will understand :) from the area. There is also a refurbished Aqueduct (no longer in use but a great visual site and engineering interest for me), the Cathedral, other churches, buildings, streets, plazas, etc.

To see a little bit of the highway (150 I think) between CDMX and Morelia you can watch this very amateur 4.5 minute video I took from the bus, ClicK HerE.

My mind is starting to ramble :) I am trying to adjust to Zihua, not as “quaint” as I hoped (however, there are doves cooing and roosters crowing) but I know the way to the Bahia (Bay) and the Playas (beaches) and I will do my best to find some walking trails and coastline views, I know they are out there :)

Hasta Luego - See you later :)

Mexico City & Bosque de Chapultepec - MyShadowProductions #161

Buenos Dias everyone !!

I am in Morelia, it was a nice 4 hour bus ride on Thursday. The coach buses in Mexico are very comfortable, clean and timely, in my experience. Most have an upper deck with only about 6 seats on the level of the driver, the rest is luggage storage.

I was lucky enough to sit one row behind the front seats and I think I got a few good videos of the trip.

However, I still have photos to share from Coyoacán and CDMX.

The WiFi at my hotel in Morelia is very slow and I hope to find WiFi at the local library (that didn’t work but I think I have figured it out) so I can upload my photo videos to Vimeo and then to this blog.

Bosque de Chapultepec is a very large city park, almost double the size of Central Park in NY.

That being said, I only explored part of it. I did like that they had some “Art” outdoors.

This is in the mountains in the Mexican State of Tamaulipas, looks beautiful.

Also, Bosque translates to Forest.

CLICK HERE for the Video, basically my photos on Tuesday, February 21.

I do want to share one short video from Morelia.

I was sitting on a bench near the Plaza, eating some papaya, and a lady sprinkled rice for the birds/pigeons. I decided to video the pigeons as they increased in number and then a welcome surprise.

Click Here to see what happened.

I am going to stop here for now, it is Saturday morning, February 24 and I want to see what I can see :)

BUENOS DIAS !!

Mexico City by Turibus - MyShadowProductions #160

 Hola everyone !!

Things are going good. Happy with my choice to stay In Coyoacán. Mexico City is big to say the least :)

My room on Calle (street) Francisco Sosa (I think of Sammy Sosa :) is about three blocks from a Parada (bus stop) for the Turibus Hop on Hop off bus. As you will hopefully see in my Video, it provides a scenic trip (just below the tree branches :) through several Mexico City neighborhoods on the way to the Centro Historico.

Some of the neighborhoods: Benito Juárez, Condesa, Roma Norte, Juárez, Tabacalera, Zona Rosa, Centro and El Zócalo…….

I transferred one time from the Sur (south) route to the Norte (north) route and got off at El Zócalo, also called Plaza de La Constitución. Arrived there around 11:20 am.

I copied this photo off the internet of a “crowd” that gathered on this past Sunday, the day I arrived in CDMX (Ciudad De MeXico, Mexico City):

Good thing I didn’t stay at a Hotel in the Centro Historico :)

The weather has been great, cool in the morning and nights (50’s) and warm during the days (70’s).

CLICK HERE to see a Video created from my photos :)

The end of the Video includes a few local sites in Coyoacán. The Parque Frida Kahlo and the Plaza de La Conchita. I read about this Plaza just this morning and I will definitely go back due to the significance and to get a photo of the palace, La Casa Colorada.

Click Here for an article about the Plaza de La Conchita. Believed to be the single oldest religious building in Mexico.

I am writing this on Wednesday morning, February 21, 2024, so I am going to get ready for my last day here in Coyoacán.

I will Post again soon :)

BUENOS DIAS !!

Can you say COYOACÁN? - MyShadowProductions #159

Hola Amigos, I am in Mexico City.

The Time zone here is the same as Central time now and then like Mountain Time when USA does time change.

Here is an idea of currency, 2000 pesos equals about $117 or 17 pesos=$1 US.

The places with missing letters in my previous Post are:

Coyoacán (where my hotel is) - a borough of Mexico City and the name means “the place of coyotes” in Nahuatl language. Do you see what I meant by a coincidence when I saw the coyote at Morton Arboretum :) There is even a Fountain with Coyotes :)

The next place with missing letters is Morelia - a city to the west of Mexico City. I will be going there by 4hr bus ride on Thursday.

The third place with missing letters is Zihuatanejo - a city on the Pacific Coast - I will go there by bus after 4 days in Morelia.

I went for a short walk after getting checked in at my room, about 3pm. I didn’t plan it, but Sunday afternoon is probably the best time to see the true life of many, many local families with a few tourists sprinkled about.

Click here to see a quick video of my first few hours.

Now, I am going to eat some roasted chicken and try to plan a little for tomorrow.

Buenas Noches !!

Random Post - MyShadowProductions #158

Hi everyone !!

No, I haven’t started my trip yet, I just had the urge to share some things that happened today.

One of the “things” that go along with moving involves finding a new doctor. I did that and had my first appointment and yearly physical :) It looks like I gained about 5 pounds since my last physical, can I blame that on the Elevation change from 5,280 ft in Denver to 719 ft in Aurora??

I really don’t think it is related to a few Chicago Style Hot Dogs or a few Italian Beef with Mozzarella sandwiches or taking the bus or Uber (instead of walking) to my volunteer gig, right??

Ok, after that appointment, I went to the Morton Arboretum to get my Volunteer Name Tag and 2024 sticker. One more step to hopefully getting my hands dirty in maybe late March or April??

While on-site I went for a hike/walk/stroll to see what I could see. I mainly hiked the East Side Main Trail Loop 1 and the East Side Main Trail Loop 2, winding through the trees (I couldn’t see the forest :) and prairie, and passing The Big Rock:

I also passed another “Of the Earth” sculptures - Oculus:

A highlight of the hike was getting to see a Coyote passing by in the brush. Coincidentally this has a “connection” to my trip but I will share about that when I Post a new blog on Sunday night or Monday morning :)

Click here for a video of the Coyote. The occasional sound in the background is a car passing by on one of the Arboretum roadways.

CLICK HERE for a Video of the hike/walk/stroll created from my photos.

Here are a few of the signs in case you are interested in reading them :)

Did you notice in the Video the Art by Mother Nature? The white fungi? on the tree log:

How about the hollow tree sections?

The black mark on the tree below looked like a burn mark, not obvious to me how it got there? Kind  of looks like a bear cub climbing :) or an ink blot for a “Nature Psychiatrist”, lol :)

Well, nobody made any guesses on where I am going on my trip, nobody asked to buy a vowel either :)

Here are a few more letters just in case you are trying, just a little, to guess:

C__o_c_n
 M_r__i_
 _i__a__n_j_

That’s all for now,

Have a great weekend !!
