MyShadowProductions #79 - Honduras/Roatan

Hola, I guess it’s all over but the shouting, whatever that means :)

Tuesday was my last day in Roatan and Honduras.

It rained off and on all day but I was still able to walk most of the West End again and take another trip on the kayak.

Here are a few photos, it is obvious to anyone that has been keeping up with the blogs that I have an obsession with sunsets, guilty I guess :)

Cruise Ship heading North

Last view of the beach on Wednesday morning before taking a taxi to the Roatan Airport at 6 am.
One last rainbow Tuesday morning

Leaving Roatan Airport with views of some wind turbines, a lot of jungle and Cruise Ships in the harbor. My hotel and the West End would be in the upper right corner of the photo.

Christmas tree in San Pedro Sula Airport

I was fortunate that all of my flights went well and just a few minor delays. My flight landed in Denver around 7:40 pm so we missed the very high wind delays that Denver Airport experienced Wednesday. As I exited the plane and walked through the Terminal there was a very, very, very long line of passengers lined up to speak with United Airlines Customer Service (not a pleasure on either side of those “conversations”).

I am grateful for an enjoyable, interesting and eye opening trip!!

Gracias a Dios!!!!

MyShadowProductions #78 - Honduras/Roatan Days 2 & 3

Hello again (speaking English like some locals do here in Roatan)

Here is a movie/video from my photos at the Carambola Botanic Gardens:

Monday, while walking along a small section of the beach, I saw this sign:

I thought, is that a noun or a verb? Or both? So, I “geletoed” a double scoop gelato (pineapple and passion fruit), very tasty and festive with the Christmas decoration.

I am thinking about going back and help Rudolph out of that glass jar :)

Also on Monday, I decided to take advantage of the free kayak offered as part of the hotel rate. It was fun and quite easy to paddle around and explore. Easy until I decided to get my camera and try to take photos :) I survived and the camera stayed dry as I kayaked among what I will call “head knocker rocks” along the shore of Half Moon Bay.

Here are a few photos of the kayaking:

Very clear water, everywhere, I could see well over 20 feet plus.

There is a reef across the tips of the bay and you can see the waves breaking there.

I have walked past Eddy’s on the Beach several times and the colors just stand out to me.

I decided to watch the Monday night sunset there and also had a great meal. Three lobster tails, rice and beans and grilled vegetables with bottomless lemonade. The cost for dinner was 500 lempiras or about $21 :))

The green dot is not a UFO. I think it is my camera saying not enough light?

Eddy’s on the beach is a great place! And the owner, Eddy, a Roatan local, was very welcoming and fun to talk with. His English was better than mine.

Here are a few random photos:

A Christmas tree of empty wine bottles. My entrepreneur idea for you wine lovers is: Make a tree frame of 365 prongs and after a bottle a day for a year you will have a Vino Christmas Tree. Adding lights would be a good idea. Also an option would be 52 prongs for 52 weeks. I guess green/clear sparkling water bottles would work as well?

A LuckyDog in Roatan
Salvadoran Puposas are good, made with corn meal.

My coconut guy. After you drink the coconut water he will cut the coconut open and spoon out the pulp for you to eat.

Pretty good trim job around the tree trunk.

The sunset really did have those rays of orange shooting up. The photo is from my table at the Argentinian Grill Restaurant.

Love the plants growing in the gutter :)

MyShadow, Peace or 2 days left? Or both?

Todo Bien! (All Good!)
(Chose a wine color to go with the VinoBottleChristmasTree idea)

MyShadowProductions #77 - Honduras/Roatan

Buenos dias!

Made it to Roatan :) It was about 2 hours by taxi from Loma de Luz to La Ceiba Airport and then just a 20 minute flight from La Ceiba to Roatan. Then a 20 minute drive in a shuttle to the Posada (hotel) Arcoiris (Rainbow) in West End.

Here is a quick movie/video (still a problem with the Google photos tool cutting off part of my landscape photos :( )

Here are a couple of photos of sunset at West Bay:

Roatan is an island that uses English because it was established by the British, but a lot of Spanish is spoken as well. I find myself being tongue tied on which language to use :) For money the same goes, they use the US dollar more than Lempiras. Trying to use a 500 Lempira paper bill ($20 USA) has been a challenge, most say they do not have change.

Today is Sunday and I took a taxi to the Carambola Botanical Gardens, near Sandy Bay. I thought I saw online that it was open but I must have been dreaming. Luckily the taxi driver honked at a guy that appeared to live onsite?? He lowered a board that said “closed” and after I paid him the $10 entry fee he said “go in”.

I had the place to myself and followed basically the “Mountain Trail” and walked through jungle very similar to my hike in Loma de Luz (up the river to the water tanks).

I will have a movie/video of that hike later but here is the reward at the top of the 30 minute hike:

Dinner last night (I know you are wondering) was a full fish and vegetables both cooked on a wood fire grill and fresh salad with a Limonada (lemonade) to drink :)

What do you think this means?

Hasta Luego :)

MyShadowProductions #76 - Honduras/Loma de Luz Days 38 - 40

 Hola amigos, como está ?

I have been taking photos of flowers and trees all around Loma de Luz and the surrounding area. It seems that red is the predominant color of the flowers but there are also yellows and oranges and even some light blue and purples. I know, like flower colors just about anywhere but here are a couple of movie/videos of the flowers of Loma deLuz and the other areas I have been so far in the Department of Colón, Honduras (I did not make it to any of the National Parks):

Saw this tree today, don’t have any idea what the hanging “flowers” are??

The photo below shows some rough lumber (with reddish color) that one of the Honduran workers here cut from a tree with a chainsaw - pretty impressive!

Yesterday, I was able to take a quick tour of the El Camino Bilingual School. A beautiful 3 story main building and several other structures. They teach grades pre-K to 10th and will try to add 11th grade next year.

The location of the school is beautiful with the surrounding palm/jungle trees viewable out of every window and the occasional mountain views included from a few windows. I took a few photos but for some reason my camera finger was shy?

Here are some photos from El Camino Bilingual School:

While I was at the school I dropped off the wooden blocks. Today, I received these photos:

   Great Imagination!

(I am wishing I had kept some blocks for me :))

Went up the hill to check the progress on a “carport” being built at one of the residences for a missionary doctor and family. This is the view from their driveway:
