January 2024 Snow, Cold & Ice and Day Trip to Chicago - MyShadowProductions #157

Hola to everyone and the SUN :)

The temperatures have moderated, the snow and ice have melted and the Fox River has risen about 2.5 ft or so (my estimation) downstream of the dams, all in the span of one month. It is pretty obvious that the river has caught my attention, lol :)

I took some photos (surprise, surprise) as the days went by, continuing from my previous Post, and the changes that Mother Nature can bring about are truly amazing, no matter where your eyes may be.

I woke up early on Sunday to a Sunny forecast and temperatures getting to 44+, so I decided to try a Day Trip to Chicago.

I took the train to Union Station, a quick walk to State Street and caught the #6 Bus to the Museum of Science and Industry for a short visit. I try, but I am just not a “museum kind of guy”, especially with Sunny weather outside and Trails that I haven’t walked.

Just east of the Museum is a path that goes under S Lake Shore Drive and connects to the Lakefront Trail along Lake Michigan :)

I walked north from there to Promontory Point and then to the Lake Shore Drive Pedestrian Bridge and then a little wandering to find a Chicago Style Hot Dog (when in Rome :) and then a train back to Van Buren Street and another brisk walk to Union Station :)

I can’t help but laugh at myself whenever I see/hear Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. It wasn’t until the last few years that I realized what the lyrics of the Aliota,  Haynes & Jeremiah - Lake Shore Drive song meant. I am talking about the line -“Just slippin’ on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound”. I always thought the LSD part was the drug, never entered my mind it was the acronym for Lake Shore Drive :)

I have planned a trip for the last week and a half of February and the first week of March. So, if things go as planned, my next Post will be from a Hotel somewhere.
