MyShadowProductions #61 - Honduras/Loma de Luz Day 1

Tuesday, November 2, 2021 was Day 1 helping with some tasks at Loma de Luz.

First I woke up before 5 am and was able to see the greenery outside my windows as daylight grew.

To get to the shop, I walk from my room and cross 2 suspension bridges and come out at the main entrance to the Hospital and a short walk up a hill to the shop area.

Day 1 of volunteering started with a group prayer session with Mike and Dave (maintenance leaders for LdL (Loma de Luz) and about 4 local workers. It was raining so more workers arrived later. Rained off and on most of the day, sometimes heavy and sometimes light.

I helped Mike mostly and first thing I helped with, after a quick overview of how LdL gets water and a quick tour of the hospital, was to run wiring to a new outlet and put an “ABIERTO” (OPEN) sign above the door at the restaurant outside the main gate called La Parilla.

Here is a photo of the very pleased owner, Alejandro, with his sign:

Next on Mike and Dave’s mental list was to install quite a bit of electrical conduit and boxes, pulling the wires and installing some outlets, switches and hanging lights. This work was in an addition to the building that houses the  new main electrical feed to LdL as well as generators and probably more that I don’t know about.

Work starts a little after 7 am, one hour for lunch at noon and ends around 4 pm.

There is a cafeteria at the Hospital the has pretty decent meals for breakfast or lunch or dinner, it is open 8 am to 4 pm. I bought a lunch today, pork chop, rice, tortillas and salad. Enough for a small lunch and leftovers for dinner. It cost 85 lempiras (24 lempiras per dollar) so about $3.5. I sat just outside the cafeteria and here is a photo:

Fruit called Rambutan, remember liking it in Thailand

The internet is getting slow tonight or maybe I am just tired :)

Today was partly cloudy, still hot and humid but it seems my body is tolerating it ok.

Until the next post, Buenas Noches for now :)
