MyShadowProductions #91 - Puerto Vallarta South Beaches Hike

Buenos dias on my last full day in Puerto Vallarta:)

Found my way around a large outcropping of rocks at the end of Playa Amapas and was able to hike about 2 miles to the south along some very impressive beaches and rocks.

On the hike I bought some shrimp on a stick or as the guy said “you want shreemps?” Also had what I call a Mango Bonito, a carved mango on a stick with lime juice squeezed on it. The guy I bought it from had a Bulls hat, I told him I was from a city 3 hours from Chicago. As I walked away I heard him tell his amigo that I was from Chicago, lol.

Google photos will show you where you took photos on a map, see the photo below for 2/22/22 photos:

FYI, if you want random children and adults and seniors to break out in short disco dances, drive down the Puerto Vallarta Malecòn on your fancy gold bicycle with a boom box playing “Staying Alive”. Again, I failed at the photo opportunity, one hand was full of a cup of homemade vanilla ice cream and the other hand had the all important spoon :)

I saw a news article headline that said Van Jefferson (plays for LA Rams I think) chose an appropriate name for his new son born during the Super Bowl.

My immediate thought is that he named him “Mini”. As in, Mini Van Jefferson, lol. Luckily Van and his wife chose Champ.

Here are some random photos from today:

Nice, modest church near my hotel.

                            Amazing vine structure!

They have pipes in Mexico too!

Got it framed literally around the corner from hotel for 175 pesos, a little less than $9 US :)

Just got my COVID Test for the flight home, literally around the corner as well.

The following movie/video is the Isla Rio Cuale area in Puerto Vallarta Centro. It is a funky, cultural and seemingly under appreciated area but is interesting nonetheless:

Last sunset for this trip, wanted to get a sunrise photo but just couldn’t find a good spot, maybe next trip?

Jardín Botánico de Vallarta, Vallarta Botanical Garden:

The next movie/video is Playa Mismaloya, Mismaloya Beach:

Up next, San Sebastián del Oeste, a Pueblo Magico about 1.5 hours east of Puerto Vallarta in the Sierra Madre Mountains:

These photos are in the movie/videos but they have been catching my eye and just wanted to share again :)

Photo above and below are “Bathroom Signage” at the Botanical Gardens. The NCAA sure could use this information!!

Have a great day! Buen Dia!

MyShadowProductions #89 - Puerto Vallarta 19 Feb 2022

Hola!!

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like there is a sunset every day :) This one happened last night:

Took a day trip today to Yelapa, a village only accessible by boat (Internet says there is one very rough path for quads and four wheeled trucks?) 16 miles south down the coast from Puerto Vallarta. Took a Water Taxi (+/- 30 passenger boat) from Los Muertos Pier in Puerto Vallarta. The cost was $400 round trip. Before you say What? Is he crazy? That’s 400 pesos or about $20 US dollars, $10 each way for an exciting and scenic 45 minute boat ride in the Bahia de Banderas (Banderas Bay). By the way, I haven’t seen Antonio anywhere.

                           Bought ticket here

Luckily we missed the canon fire from the Pirate Ship!!

Along the way we passed Boca de Tomatlán where I started the hike last Tuesday and the beaches like, Playa Colomitos, Playa Los Animas and Playa Quimixto and several others in between.

Yelapa, to me, was a little strange/unique/hard to explain vibe. Ownership of land is limited to indigenous people and that definitely influences the “development” and “layout” of the village. The hills/mountains and jungle and rocks and waterfall have influences too! I read on the Internet that Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper rented a house there in the 1960’s, that probably explains it all :)

The water taxi arrived at the pier about 11 am and would leave at 4 pm for the return trip, leaving 5 hours to explore. (Did you check my math? Lol)

I am going to let the photos speak for themselves, here are a few movie/videos created from my photos:

The shrimp tacos were really good with the guacamole and chipotle salsas :)

The art on the curvy wall appeared to be painted by school children? Maybe just recently or the paint and supplies have been left there for affect?

This workbook shows some of the planning:

In hindsight I should have found and taken a photo of that scene on the wall, duh! I did get the horse’s ass part in this photo??

More to come mañana !!

MyShadowProductions #88 - Puerto Vallarta 15 - 18 Feb 2022

Hola Amigos! I have some catching up to do :)

Starting off with a movie/video created from photos Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Keep an eye out for the diving pelican at the end of the video:

Thursday I was having big problems with my phone not charging so I took a bus North to the Mac/Apple store at La Isla mall (believe me, a mall is the absolute last place I want to go on a trip or any other time :). Besides that, the bus ride was in heavy traffic through all the condo and hotel areas and I will stop complaining there.

Good news, after a decent wait I was able to have them look at the phone and they cleaned the charging port and all is good (only 600 pesos, $30).

Since I was already 45 minutes North of my hotel, I took the bus another 30 minutes North to Bucerias. It is a smaller area on the Bay of Banderas with a Playa (beach) that extends over 5 miles. Good winds for Kitesurfing. Here a couple of movie/videos created from my photos there:

The part of the video where you see a tree stump in the foreground and ocean, I was sitting there listening to live classic rock music from a restaurant behind me. Perfect place because the music wasn’t too loud. I tried to take a video of the ocean hoping the music could be heard on the video but that didn’t work :(

Meanwhile, back in Puerto Vallarta, Close to the Malecòn there is a Park with a lot of Tile Mosaics. Click here to read all about it!

This bench looks like it is available if anybody wants to schedule a group trip and put our Tiles out there! Imagine how many benches, etc. we could have done with all the ceramic tile we had or could have had from Uncle Bob!!

Here is a movie/video created from my photos at the Park with other random photos of tile throughout my walks:

I do not have any photos for this but this afternoon while strolling (kind of like walking) along the Malecòn I heard someone mention Whales. Sure enough, way out in the bay I could see the “spray” from the blowholes, a tail fin or two breach the waves and glisten in the sun and then, one of the whales jumped completely out of the sea! Much like the roadrunner I missed at the San Miguel de Allende Botanic Garden, my phone was not ready. Sorry if you were expecting/hoping for a joke at the end, just a story without evidence.

I spent a little time today planning for the last few days of my trip. I think I will take about 3 additional day trips and I have 2 free days.

Also today, Friday, I went a few blocks off the Malecòn and walked up and down the streets on the hills for some great views and architecture. The Casa Kimberly by the white arching bridge in the video is now a Hotel in the casa (house) that Richard Burton bought for him and Elizabeth Taylor back in the day. The movie they were in, Night of the Iguana, was filmed in Mismaloya which is a beautiful small beach area about 30 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta.

Here is my movie/video created from the photos on today’s morning walk:

Did you notice the tennis shoes hanging from the utility wires?

No, the Church steeple is not a “leaning tower”, I just did a poor job of editing the photos before creating the movie/video.

That was a great Mexican Omelette with Carne and coffee after the walk!

When the aforementioned Mosaic Tile Travel Group is in Puerto Vallarta, this is a great Italian Restaurant with a Mexican flavor!

That is Frankie (balding with green shirt) in the upper right corner of the rigatoni photo!

I haven’t done a good job bragging about how nice the weather is here:

I know some of you might be experiencing the six letter word “Winter” :)

Here’s another photo from this afternoon along the Malecòn:

Hasta Luego Amigos !!

MyShadowProductions #87 - Puerto Vallarta Second Post for Tuesday 15 Feb 2022

Hola! Please realize that this is the second post for Tuesday so do yourself a favor and read them both, #86 and #87. Gracias!

Some movie/videos created from yesterday’s hike photos:

Good thing they didn’t forget the apostrophe:

MyShadow thought it was a “swim up” restaurant but the tables are separated  from the water by walls :)

Oh, by the way: (must be a turtle hotline?)

This galvanized pipe water line followed the trail from Playa Las Animas to Playa Quimixto, over a mile. I remember bidding on that project but we weren’t the low bidder :)

There were a couple of surfers at Playa Quimixto, short video:

Also, saw some “Lucky Dogs”. I asked a guy close to Playa Quimixto if I was going on the correct trail. The dog on the sidewalk must have “heard” me because he led me all the way to Playa Quimixto, true story:

Here we are - Playa Quimixto !
