MyShadowProductions #48 - “Nothing to do?” Go to the Denver Botanic Gardens

Hi everyone, I am still here :)

It has been a while since I wrote, no excuses, but I will start this Post with a couple of things I heard today.

One was directed to me as I passed a lady on the sidewalk while I was on my way to the grocery store.

She said, “It’s not your fault, you’re not supposed to be here anyway!”.

This one, I overheard while sitting on a bench at the Denver Botanic Gardens, 5 young boys (+/- 10 yrs old?) walked by and one boy bragged;

“We watched a movie that was made in 1999, that was still the 20th century!”.

I wanted a little bit of a rest today and also a nice walk, so I went to the Denver Botanic Gardens. A bonus was the exercise catching my hat, many times, from blowing off in the wind, surprisingly my reflexes are still fairly good and the hat didn’t hit the ground. It may have looked awkward to anyone that saw it, but what the heck, they can write about it in their Blog :)

There are a couple of new Art Exhibits at the Freyer Newman Center:

The first is, Radiant Season: Paintings by Kevin Sloan

Click Here for more information on the Denver Botanic Gardens website.

Here are a few photos from his exhibit, with more included in the movie/video below.

The other Art Exhibit is, Salvador Dalí: Gardens of the Mind

Click Here for more information on the Denver Botanic Gardens website.

Here are a few photos from his exhibit, with more included in the movie/video below.

Here is the movie/video created from my photos:

Good news on the Botanic Gardens volunteer front, I will be able to go twice a week. The horticulturist that I have helped at the Children’s Garden is taking on a few areas in the Main Gardens and will transition over the next year. Most likely I will be able to go to the Children’s Garden and the Main Gardens one day each for a 3 to 4 hour volunteer shift.

These are the new (for me) areas that we will be working at:

There seem to be a lot of signs in “Sacred Earth” :)

One of my favorite tasks is to rake the gravel paths like in the photo above, “it is zen!”  :)

Here is a movie/video from my photos today:

I guess I didn’t get the memo about proper attire for the day :)

There is a family of foxes that have a den under this rock in the Dryland Mesa neighborhood:)
The log in the photo points to the entrance which is kind of hard to see with the shadow.

Have a great week before Memorial Day!!

MyShadowProductions #47 - Day Trip #11 - Denver to Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms

Hello again!

This past Wednesday, Cinco de Mayo, my volunteer shift at Denver Botanic Gardens was cancelled because of something I never thought I would hear in Denver, “the gardens are too wet because of all the rain”.

Even though it is still early spring, not many flowers, leaves, crops and lavender yet, I decided to take a trip south of Denver to the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms location.

To get there is pretty easy. A 15 minute walk from my apartment to the 16th and Stout RTD Light Rail Station, a 30 minute train ride south on the N Line to the last stop, the Littleton/Mineral Avenue Station and a 10 minute Uber ride to Chatfield Farms.

It turned out to be a good day for a visit. Due to the previous couple days of rain, Deer Creek was flowing full and plenty of small, tree debris caused, waterfalls. In addition, there were plenty of interesting clouds (sounds strange, but sometimes there is too much sun in Denver?, careful what I wish for!) and I even got to see a thunderstorm move through just to the east of the Farms. The clouds made it a little challenging for MyShadow, but we were able to get that all important photo :)

Click Here for the Chatfield Farms website and a complete story of what they are all about.

This sign at the Visitor Center (Closed because of COVID) lists the major Special Events held at the Farms:

One special exhibit is called “One Fell Swoop” by Patrick Dougherty, see the photos below and Click Here for the full story:

Look real close at this plant, I think it is a “Feather Sprouts” :)

The State Bird of Colorado is a Lark Bunting, but I think I got a photo of a Black-billed Magpie?? :), am I a “Birder” yet??

Needless to say, I took a lot of photos! Here are a couple of movie/videos:

I found these signs to be interesting:

Hope you have a great Mother’s Day weekend!!
